<p>Although the <a href="https://www.sneakerjagers.com/en/sneakers/search?query=gel+nyc&amp;filter=available" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ASICS GEL-NYC™</a> is not as old as most ASICS silhouettes, the sneaker does have the retro look that people associate with ASICS. The model was introduced in 2023 in a collaboration with Awake NY. Not much later, the first regular releases of the silhouette appeared.</p>

<p>For the sneaker, ASICS pulled previous silhouettes from the archives. The model takes its inspiration from the running shoes of the 00s and combines it with the DNA of the metropolis of New York, as the name suggests.</p>

Let's take a detailed look at the ASICS GEL-NYC™ model


<p>ASICS Sportstyle has teamed up with AWAKE NY to release a brand new silhouette: the Gel-NYC! Behind the unique design is AWAKE NY founder Angelo Baque and his team. The creative process combined ASICS's latest technology with familiar designs. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Design of the AWAKE x ASICS Gel-Lyte NYC</h2>



<p>The idea behind the design is that the model is comfortable and versatile and can also be worn day and night. The upper of the sneaker is based on the <a href="https://www.sneakerjagers.com/en/sneakers/search?query=gel-nimbus" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gel-Nimbus</a> 3 from the 2000s, partly combined with the design of the <a href="https://www.sneakerjagers.com/en/sneakers/search?query=gel-mc+plus" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gel-MC Plus</a> sneakers. In addition, the Gel-NYC incorporates the <a href="https://www.sneakerjagers.com/en/sneakers/search?query=gel-cumulus+16" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gel-Cumulus 16</a> tooling system, which will give you extra comfort.</p>



<p>Furthermore, the AWAKE x ASICS Gel-Lyte NYC gets its name from the city where the new style originated: New York City! But the design goes far beyond just New York City. Indeed, when creating the design, Baque was inspired by the idea that the sneaker could live in any environment in its own unique way and how it could be embraced by cultures around the world.</p>



<p>Although the colours may seem unrelated to the fact that the shoe serves as a love letter to the city, they were deliberate choices by Baque. The colours represent a variety of unlikely references in his personal collection.</p>



<p>On 2 February 2023, the collaboration was released on ASICS.com and at selected retailers, priced at €160. <p>After their successful collab with <strong>Awake NY</strong> on the <a href="https://www.sneakerjagers.com/en/sneakers/search?query=awake+asics+kayano" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">GEL-Kayano</a> and <a href="https://www.sneakerjagers.com/en/sneakers/search?query=awake+asics+lyte" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">GEL-LYTE III</a> model, <strong>ASICS</strong> and the New York-based brand developed a new, collaborative silhouette. It's not a model made from scratch, instead, the two brands combined various models.  The GEL-Nimbus 3, GEL-MC Plus V, and GEL-Cumulus 16 models mashed together made the <strong>Awake NY x ASICS GEL-NYC</strong>. This new silhouette is a mix of retro designs with modern technology. </p>

<p>The Awake NY x ASICS GEL-NYC will be available in two versatile colorways. The first one includes a gray mesh base with suede overlays in a contrasting teal color. A pink vector logo and mudguard complete the design. The second colorway comes in purple, gray, and golden colors on the same design. Both pairs feature Awake NY branding on the lateral heels and ASICS branding appears on the tongues. </p>



<p>As far as we know, the <strong>Awake NY x ASICS GEL-NYC</strong> sneakers will be released through Awake NY's New York flagship store. A wider launch is planned during the Paris Fashion Week from the middle to the end of January 2023. There is no sizing or pricing information as of yet.
