ASICS Sportstyle has teamed up with AWAKE NY to release a brand new silhouette: the Gel-NYC! Behind the unique design is AWAKE NY founder Angelo Baque and his team. The creative process combined ASICS's latest technology with familiar designs.
The Design of the AWAKE x ASICS Gel-Lyte NYC
The idea behind the design is that the model is comfortable and versatile and can also be worn day and night. The upper of the sneaker is based on the Gel-Nimbus 3 from the 2000s, partly combined with the design of the Gel-MC Plus sneakers. In addition, the Gel-NYC incorporates the Gel-Cumulus 16 tooling system, which will give you extra comfort.
Furthermore, the AWAKE x ASICS Gel-Lyte NYC gets its name from the city where the new style originated: New York City! But the design goes far beyond just New York City. Indeed, when creating the design, Baque was inspired by the idea that the sneaker could live in any environment in its own unique way and how it could be embraced by cultures around the world.
Although the colours may seem unrelated to the fact that the shoe serves as a love letter to the city, they were deliberate choices by Baque. The colours represent a variety of unlikely references in his personal collection.
On 2 February 2023, the collaboration was released on ASICS.com and at selected retailers, priced at €160. Check out the two colorways 'Green Blue Slate' and 'Gothic Grape' for more photos and information!
