A silhouette that hardly anyone had seen coming made its comeback this year: the PUMA Speedcat. The sneaker was introduced in 1999 for the racing community. With the Speedcat, PUMA brought track style to the street and did so successfully. Now, more than 20 years later, PUMA is bringing back the beloved silhouette.
To celebrate this comeback, PUMA organized the Fitstop event. Sneakerjagers attended and reported live. Read all about the PUMA Speedcat Fitstop event here.
PUMA Speedcat
It might be the it-sneaker of the season: the PUMA Speedcat. Designed as a racing shoe, embraced as a lifestyle sneaker. Making its comeback after more than 20 years, the Speedcat is being worn by a new generation of motorcycle fans and the fashion community. To celebrate the return of the PUMA Speedcat, PUMA organized the Fitstop event in Amsterdam.
While enjoying drinks and snacks, artists, content creators, and partners were invited to style one of the PUMA Speedcat colorways, 'Black' or 'Red'. Sneakerjagers was also invited and reported live via its Instagram account (@sneakerjagers).
Recap event
At two in the afternoon, the first guests trickled in. After signing in at the entrance, each attendee received the PUMA Speedcat in either the 'Red' or 'Black' colorway. The venue was exactly what you would expect at an event for the Speedcat; with a motorcycle in the middle of the room and PUMA racing apparel on the walls.
After receiving the PUMA Speedcat, guests were able to sit down on the couches and race against each other with the game consoles on hand. While enjoying a drink, sneakers were put on and everyone was expected in the Fitstop.
Fitstop
The Fitstop is exactly what you would think upon hearing the term: a pit stop for outfits. Invited especially for the event were the ladies of Rotterdam-based clothing boutique ANSH46. With multiple racks of clothes from brands as diverse as Martine Rose, Rick Owens, Chopova Lowena, Ottolinger and, of course, PUMA, the best outfits were put together.
In the fitting rooms, everyone could change and get styled with the necessary jewelry and accessories. With the styled outfits and the Speedcat on their feet, the attendees could go one by one to the glambot á la Met Gala, but the sped-up version, to record their clip. Standing on the platform, everyone was asked to strike their best poses.
Drinks
The clips could then be viewed immediately and posted on socials. Around the end of the afternoon, drinks took place in the seating area. Guests from different directions could meet while enjoying drinks, snacks and relaxing background music or compete against each other in a virtual race.
After the last guests received their PUMA Speedcat and shot their clip, the event came to an end. The last snacks and drinks were served and around eight o'clock the last attendees said their goodbyes.
We enjoyed it immensely and would like to thank PUMA for inviting us! Check out more atmospheric images from the Speedcat Fitstop event below. Don't forget to follow Sneakerjagers on Instagram (@sneakerjagers) to be the first to know about events like this.
