The Karhu family has a new member. Helsinki-based fashion designer Sasu Kauppi joins Karhu as the new Creative Specialist for the lifestyle category. On April 28, 2023, the 'Join the team' collection dropped as their very first collab. The collection will include the famous Fusion 2.0 and many more.
The new creative face
Sasu Kauppi is no stranger when it comes to being a creative mind in the fashion industry. Graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2011, Kauppi was a part of the MA show with his graduate collection. With this collection, he managed to win the Dunhill award. Kauppi received recognition from the British fashion press and orders for garments soon followed. In the Spring-Summer of 2012, Sasu Kauppi's first collection made for production released. The focus of the collection was easily recognized and approachable sportswear. This combined with the hallmark of more niche and high-end pieces.
Now, Kauppi has joined the Karhu family and will be the inspirational force behind many Karhu projects. This will include future concepts, graphic design, pattern creation, and many footwear and apparel collabs. With his experience and history in fashion design, both creating and teaching, Sasu Kauppi will put a fresh spin on Karhu's lifestyle collection.
Sasu Kauppi and Karhu first collection
The first of many to come, the first lifestyle collection called 'Join the Team' between the two will consist of two different versions of the Karhu Fusion 2.0. In both versions of the sneaker, Kauppi plays with color.
The first Fusion 2.0 comes in a White and Blue colorway with tints of orange detailing on the sneaker. On the heel, there is 'Join the Team' in orange. Special Karhu and Kauppi branding is on the tongue.
With the second version of the Fusion 2.0, Kauppi goes a bit bolder. A Lime Green colorway mixed with white and accents of navy blue creates a sneaker that cannot be missed. Just like on the previous Fusion 2.0, the White and Lime Green one has 'Join the Team' on the heel in Kauppi's signature font. The Sasu Kauppi and Karhu special branding is on the tongue.
Besides the two sneakers dropping, there is also an apparel collection that is dropping alongside the Fusion 2.0. There are tracksuits, sweatshirts, T-shirts, and various accessories in bold colors and vibrant designs. On most of the items, 'Join the Team' slogan is put in Kauppi's signature font. The collection is on analogue. This brings a raw and soulful feel to Kauppi's vibrant designs.
