Nike Air Max 1 'Familia' - 2023

The holidays are upon us again and Nike is already gearing up to honour various celebrations with special designs. One such celebration is Día de Muertos, a Mexican festival taking place in November 2023. Last year, in 2022, we saw the Air Max 1 'Somos Familia', and for 2023 too, Nike has unleashed their creativity on this silhouette. Meet the colourful Air Max 1 'La Familia'!

Día de Muertos is a celebration to honour the memory of deceased loved ones. Family members of those who have passed away create ofrendas, which are altars that usually contain Pan de Muerto, candles and flowers. However, they sometimes include items that the deceased loved one cherished during his or her lifetime, such as a specific drink, a favourite music album or an item of clothing.

The upcoming Air Max 1 reflects one of these ofrendas and appears in a striking mix of colours. The Swooshes have been given a vibrant pink colour and feature a texture inspired by pan dulce. Powerful red threads with yellow stripes run across the side panel, while bright green threads can be seen on the heel overlays.

Lastly, the suede mudguards are done in a soft pink shade. Every detail reflects the candles, flowers, food, clothing and additional decorations characteristic of this celebration. The result is a vibrant Air Max design that beautifully showcases Latin American culture.

The Nike Air Max 1 'La Familia' is set to be released on 27th September 2023. Unfortunately, it appears that this sneaker will not be available for retail in Europe.
