The holidays are upon us again and Nike is already gearing up to honour various celebrations with special designs. One of such celebrations is Día de Muertos, a Mexican festival that takes place in November 2023. Last year, in 2022, we saw the Air Max 1 'Somos Familia', and for 2023 too, Nike is coming up with several designs, all of which will start dropping between 18 October 2023 and 24 October 2023.
The pack includes an Air Max 1, Dunk Low, Air Jordan 1 Zoom and Blazer Mid.
Día de Muertos 2023
Día de Muertos is a special celebration that serves as a tribute to the memory of loved ones who have died. During this tradition, family members erect special altars, called 'ofrendas.' These altars are often decorated with symbolic elements, including Pan de Muerto, candles and flowers. It is a celebration to remember, honour and cherish what was, and keep alive the bond with those who are no longer physically with us.
Nike Air Max 1 Premium WMNS 'Día de Muertos' | FQ8172-645
The Air Max 1 has a strikingly vibrant upper that is almost completely covered in pink and is made of a combination of mesh, canvas and leather.
This pink upper forms the basis for beautiful embellishments, which pay homage to the traditional decorations seen around the ofrendas. The Nike Air Max 1 Premium WMNS 'Día de Muertos' will start dropping on Saturday 21 October 2023 at 9am.
Nike Dunk Low PRM WMNS 'Día de Muertos' | FQ8148-010
Unlike the Air Max 1, the other trainers have a slightly more luxurious look. They are inspired by the story of the marigold and the hummingbird, a story often told during the Mexican holiday.
The Nike WMNS Dunk Low 'Día De Muertos' specifically takes inspiration from the hummingbird and will release on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 9am. The trainer features a gold-tone upper with the same pattern as the Air Max 1 'Día De Muertos'. The overlays show a crocodile motif. A pink Swoosh adorns the tongue, and on the heel there is an embroidered hummingbird.
Nike Blazer Mid '77 PRM WMNS 'Día de Muertos' | FQ8173-104
Also scheduled for release is the Nike Blazer Mid '77 PRM WMNS 'Día de Muertos' on Saturday 21 October 2023. This trainer features eye-catching graphics and subtle vibrant accents, including bright pink insoles and tongue logos. In addition, metallic gold crescent moon and stars flaunt the insoles, which are also embroidered on the lateral heels.
Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT 2 'Día de Muertos' | FQ8155-010
The Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT 2 'Familia' is fully embellished with a floral pattern. This design features black accents that contrast beautifully against the beige upper. Custom branding can be found on the insoles. The Air Jordan will be released on 21 October 2023, again at 9am.
