Nike SB is a successful example of what can happen when professional skaters are given the opportunity to design their own sneakers.
Nike first delved into the world of skateboarding in the late 90s, but with little success.
It was after Sandy Bodecker's contributions to the brand and the introduction of the Nike SB Dunk that it began to take off in the skating community.
Bodecker re-engineered the Dunk for skateboarding by adding a thicker, padded tongue and collar (for protection), Zoom Air cushioning in the insole (for impact support) and a grippier outsole for better board feel.
The Blazer, Stefan Janoski, Shane, Ishod, Bruin and Pogo are some of the other popular models within the Nike SB range.
