Earlier in 2024, the first images of the next Nike project with Alexis Sablone appeared. On her Instagram account, she gave a sneak peek of her upcoming project with Nike in which she used the Nike Dunk Low SB model for her own design. We also saw her Converse AS-1 Pro signature model appear in a never-before-seen colorway.
Now, Nike and Converse are showing the collection designed by Alexis Sablone for the teams of America and Japan. The collection, consisting of kits and footwear, will drop in the summer of 2024.
Alexis Sablone
Alexis Sablone, skater and architect, is known for her original style and groundbreaking tricks. With an architecture degree from MIT, she combines her passion for skateboarding with design. So it's no surprise that she got her own sneaker in 2023 in collaboration with Converse.
Now she is taking the next step with Nike. Especially for the Olympics, Sablone has partnered with Converse CONS and Nike SB to design skateboard kits for the United States and Japan. Far from being uniform, the kits encourage freedom of expression and personality, both on and off the skateboard.
“It never crossed my mind that I’d get to design federation kits. Then again, there was a point when I didn’t even think skate would be an Olympic sport,” Alexis tells Nike. “When I got the call to design the kits, I had a gut instinct that told me, ‘Of course. I’m a designer and a skater, and I competed in the Olympics. Why not? Who gets a chance to do that?’”
In addition to the kits, Ablone also designed a Nike SB Dunk Low. The sneaker's upper is a real eye-catcher with vibrant green, scaly overlays that change from green to purple the more they are worn. The striking design extends to the signature Swoosh on the side.
The Converse AS-1 Pro maintains a more understated style, with a white perforated leather upper subtly brightened by purple accents and a classic gum-colored outsole. This sneaker also uses wear-away leather.
Release
The Nike SB 2024 federation kits and apparel items drop on July 18, 2024, at select retailers. The two sneakers, the Converse CONS AS-1 Pro and Nike SB Dunk Low will be dropped on Augustus 22, 2024, in an exclusive twin pack featuring both silhouettes.
Both sneakers will also drop separately on Augustus 29, 2024 via Nike SNKRS and Converse.
