News broke recently that Miles Morales, the fictional character from the latest Marvel Spider-Man films, would be getting his own PUMA Suede collab. Back in 2023, Miles already received his own Air Jordan 1 Retro High especially for the release of the movie 'Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse'.
Now we see two other silhouettes from the collaboration that take inspiration from the American animated series 'The Boondocks'. Read more about the three-way collaboration here.
Marvel x PUMA
In 2018, Marvel and Sony Pictures Animations released 'Spider Man Into the Spider Verse,' an animated film about the life of Spider-Man. The film tells the story of Miles Morales, a Brooklyn teenager who is bitten by a mysterious spider and develops superpowers.
The animated film received rave reviews and dragged in one award after another. In 2023 the film received a sequel, 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,' and in 2025 the next film is scheduled to be released, called 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.'
PUMA seems to be hyping itself up already, releasing a PUMA Suede in honor of Miles, along with two other sneakers that hint at the series 'The Boondocks,' from 2005.
The Marvel x PUMA Suede 'Miles Morales' combines the colors of the Spider-Man suit. The upper is black suede; the Evostripe on the center panel is white, as is the sole and logo on the tongue. The tongue features the Marvel logo, the film's producer. The heel comes with the Spider-Man logo.
'The Boondocks'
The two other sneakers from the triple collaboration, are the PUMA RS-X in the colorways 'Black Panther' and 'Blade'. The sneakers hint at the series 'The Boondocks' which is based on Aaron McGruder's comic book of the same name.
Directed by Adult Swim, the series focuses on the Freemans family, specifically brothers Huey and Riley. The series highlights society from an African-American perspective and does so satirically.
Fans of the story of Miles Morales, I am sure, have already seen comparisons to Boondocks characters passing by. For example, Riley is said to be the evil alter ego of Morales and his little brother Huey. Accordingly, the insoles of all three pairs feature Boondocks-inspired cartoon images.
The two PUMA RS-X colorways take inspiration from two other superheroes, Black Panther and Blade. The PUMA RS-X 'Black Panther' features a black upper with blue details across the upper. The 'Blade' variant, on the other hand, uses red details. TPU elements are placed across the silhouette.
The triple collaboration drops on June 22, 2024. Check out the official images of the sneaker below. Keep an eye on the Sneakerjagers release calendar for upcoming releases.
