Just when you think, “it can't get any crazier with Balenciaga's creations,” the brand manages to surprise you again. The Spanish fashion house is known for its striking, unique, and sometimes controversial collections. The 2025 collection is no exception. For spring 2025, Balenciaga is introducing the 'Platform Sneaker'.
Balenciaga has been a much-discussed brand since its founding in 1919. In 2015, Demna, founder of label Vetements, was appointed as the fashion house's new creative director. In recent years, the Georgian designer has put down many creations and collections - which were not always well received.
After some controversies surrounding campaigns in 2023, Demna seems to be back. In recent weeks, the first designs for 2025 were shown, including the 'Platform Sneaker,' a sneaker with a sole measuring a whopping 6.2 inches (ca. 16 cm).
The sneaker has the well-known distressed look we are used to from previous Balenciaga designs. The upper uses the materials mesh, and leather, with intentional tears and signs of wear. The sole consists of several soles that appear to be pressed together.
