<p>Recently we saw the first two colorways of the <a href="https://snkrjg.rs/egJg8Y" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PUMA</a> Mostro, a model introduced in 1999. The sneaker was particularly popular in the early 2000s, but disappeared off the radar for a while. Now, some 20 years later, the Y2K model is back, better than ever. A new "spiky" variant (and not the one by Studio HAGEL) is expected in 2024.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PUMA Mostro 2024</h2>



<p>These days, the Y2K style is often associated with sneakers from ASICS, New Balance or BAPE. Now we see a new major player in this trend: <a href="https://snkrjg.rs/egJg8Y" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PUMA</a>. In January, the 'Olive Oil' and 'Cool Grey' colorways of the iconic Mostro silhouette dropped.</p>



<p>The model, designed by Peter Schmidt, takes inspiration from 1960s sprint shoes and 1980s surf shoes. Combining the two styles results in a sleek silhouette with chunky spikes on the outsole and a strap on the instep. Despite being over 20 years old, the silhouette has a progressive design that is very relevant in 2024.</p>



<p>The first variant of the model, the Mostro Boot, appeared back in 2023 in a collaboration with Ottolinger. The boot was debuted in Paris for the FW23 collection. Recently, A$AP Rocky was featured in the bright yellow colorway of the PUMA Mostro, and we saw the first images of a San San Gear collab, which uses a light pink colorway of the silhouette.</p>

<p>After the re-release of the PUMA Mostro, Studio HAGEL, led by Dutch Mathieu Hagelaars (who is also a guest on this week's <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@SneakerjagersNL" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Grote Tim &amp; Tom Sneaker Show</a>), came up with its own variation of the silhouette.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">'The spikier, the better'</h3>



<p>Images of the "Monstrous Mostro" went all over the Internet in no time. HAGEL's designs are known for their modern, futuristic, and sometimes slightly absurd look - something that matched very well with the silhouette of the PUMA Mostro. Less than a week after the first images of the "Monstrous Mostro," we see PUMA's own take on the silhouette.</p>

<p>In the recently shared images of the PUMA Mostro, we see a close-fitting silhouette that appears to have been designed with a 3D printer. Instead of just the outsole being covered with spikes, this pair uses rubber spikes all over the design.</p>

Is PUMA's Mostro already the best silhouette of 2024?


<p>The <a href="https://snkrjg.rs/elYwKr" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PUMA</a> Mostro will make its comeback in 2024. The silhouette debuted in 1999 and will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2024. Something that will be celebrated with no less than two colorways: the 'Olive Oil' and 'Cool Light Grey'. The PUMA Mostro drops at various retailers on <strong>January 13, 2024</strong>. Check out all the release details here.</p>



<p>In 1999, Peter Schmidt designed the PUMA Mostro, a sneaker named after the Italian word for "monster. The model takes its inspiration from 1980s surf shoes and 1960s sprint shoes. The model gained a lot of popularity in the 2000s and even appeared in the movie The Island (2005).</p>



<p>Now, 25 years later, the model is making its comeback. The sneaker is not an exact replica, but is a remastered version. The upper stays close to the OG upper of the Mostro and is made of breathable mesh. The sneaker has no laces, but comes with an adjustable strap. Placed on the center panel is the Evostripe.</p>



<p>The rubber outsole comes with small spikes that provide grip and hold. Placed across the silhouette are <a href="https://snkrjg.rs/elYwKr" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PUMA</a> branding. The PUMA Mostro will arrive on <strong>January 13, 2024</strong>, in two colorways; the <a href="https://www.sneakerjagers.com/en/s/puma-mostro-og-olive-oil-397330-01/465734" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">'Olive Oil'</a> and <a href="https://www.sneakerjagers.com/en/s/puma-mostro-og-cool-light-grey-397330-02/465735" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">'Cool Light Grey'</a>.
