Nike honours Frank Rudy with the Air Max TW
The Nike Air Max TW honours an icon within Nike and celebrates Frank Rudy. The pioneering concept of Nike Air Technology was invented by Rudy in 1997. Now, about 25 years later, the designer gets his own tribute.
Before working at Nike, Frank worked at NASA for some time. Because of his history with the space programme, he applied previously acquired knowledge and came up with the Nike Air technology. The discovery was revolutionary and has given us many popular models, such as this Nike Air Max TW.
The Air Max TW has a futuristic look which suits Frank's innovative vision. The TW makes use of several bright colours, applied in such a way that they balance each other out. The base of the model consists of white mesh and comes with light beige suede overlays.
The 'University Blue' colour on the tongue and midsole gives the sneaker a striking twist. The colours yellow and orange can be seen in various small details on the sleek Air Max and is, for example, obvious on the Air Bubble.
The Air Max TW references Frank Rudy in several details. For instance, the sneaker comes with a hang tag that has the appearance of a pressure gauge, this is a nod to the Air Technology designer's NASA past. The insoles also reference Rudy and are decorated with drawings of various blueprints that refer to the Air Bubble. The right insole also features Frank's signature.
