Nike launches first collab with Nigo

Nike launches first collab with Nigo

The rumors had been going around for a while, but Nike and Nigo are now officially launching their first collaboration. It involves a colorful variant Air Force 3 and matching apparel. We can expect to see the collab at select retailers in late September 2024. On October 4, 2024, the Nike Air Force III will drop in the SNKRS app.

Nigo x Nike

It may be the most notable collaboration of the year: Nigo and Nike. The artist announced in 2023 that he would team up with Nike after his breakup with adidas. At the Kenzo SS25 show last summer in Paris, Nigo appeared in a never-before-seen Nike Air Force 3 colorway. Now we see the duo's first collab using the same silhouette.

This is the Nike Air Force 3 Low 'White Multicolor,' not to be confused with the 'Blue Void,' which was teased last month. The sneaker features a colorful design that takes inspiration from Nike's archives. For example, the sneaker is suspiciously reminiscent of the 'Escape' colorway, which appeared on the Air Force 3 High in 1988.

“Nike truly has many masterpieces,” Nigo says in a statement. “The AF3 is a hidden masterpiece that I remember loving at the time. Through my first collaboration with Nike, I want to reintroduce everyone to its magnificence.” Zo gezegd, zo gedaan.

The Air Force 3 Low features a leather, white upper. The colorful overlays are patent leather, giving the sneaker a chic look. The sneaker comes in a custom shoebox that uses striking Japanese graphics. The pair uses the classic Nike branding, except the “NIGO” emblem on the heel.

Nigo: “When I decided to work with Nike, I went to the Nike World Headquarters and drew a lot of inspiration from the archives, the lab, and the team working there. Everything I saw had a great influence on the project. There are still many things yet to come, so please look forward to the Nike and Nigo project. It's the beginning of a long and exciting journey.”

Release

The Nigo x Nike Air Force 3 'White Multicolor' and accompanying apparel will be available exclusively at Otsumo Plaza in Tokyo, humanmade.jp and the 'I Know Nigo 2' pop-up in New York on September 28, 2024. On October 4, 2024, the collab will be released on SNKRS and at select outlets.

Nigo shows up in an unreleased Nike Air Force 3 Low at the KENZO SS25 runway

Nigo shows up in an unreleased Nike Air Force 3 Low at the KENZO SS25 runway

In 2023, BAPE founder Nigo announced that he would be working with Nike. The designer had been with adidas for years, but earlier that year, Nigo announced that this collaboration had ended.

Things remained quiet around Nike and Nigo for a while, until the artist appeared this week in a never-before-seen Nike Air Force Low 3 during the Kenzo SS25 show.

Nigo x Nike

The first rumors of a possible collaboration between Nike and Nigo seem to be confirmed. After over a year since the first rumors circulated about a possible collaboration, Nigo showed a possible design from the duo during Paris Fashion Week; the Air Force 3 Low.

The collaboration with Nigo is logical and warped at the same time. The Japanese designer founded the brand A Bathing Ape (BAPE) in 1993 and conquered streetwear culture with his ABC Camo print. In addition, Nigo is responsible for the clothing line Human Made, is a creative director at Kenzo, and has an extensive music career in which he has collaborated with Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, and Pusha-T.

Creatively, Nike and Nigo are certainly a match. Still, the collaboration is somewhat sensitive with some fans. Nigo has worked with adidas for about 20 years. Besides the fact that Nigo has not worked with Nike before, his brand BAPE was even recently sued by Nike for "copying" the design of the Air Force 1.

Despite the ongoing lawsuit, the two now seem to be on the right foot. During the Kenzo SS25 show, the designer appeared in a colorful Nike Air Force 3 Low. The sneaker is most likely inspired by the 1988 Air Force 3 High 'Escape'.

For now, there is not much known about the collaboration. Keep an eye on our news page for the latest updates.
