As part of the collaboration between Nike and OSHU Doernbecher Children's Hospital comes the Air Jordan 1 Low ‘Doernbecher’. With a long-lasting history of releases starting in 2004, the sportswear brand continues raising money for the medical institute through the Freestyle collection designed by the patients.
The 2023 Air Jordan 1 Low is an explosion of colour that radiates positivity designed by 15 year old Riddhi Mahajan. The silhouette features a green and purple colour scheme, a contrasting combination meant to reflect the designer's positive mindset. The upper comes dressed in 'Shadow Lime' leather on the toe box and heel accessorised with 'Kaitoke Green' overlays in leather on the front foot and upper eyelets. The medial overlays and heel tab come in the same darker green hue constructed from textured fabric. The White medial base sets the perfect background for the purple-translucent Swoosh that makes the 'Radiate Positivity' writing visible. The toe box features 'Brand New Day' writing in the same romantic handwriting font. On the lateral, the sneaker features an embroidered daisy, emphasising the positive mood that the shoe is designed to spread. The laces are constructed from ombre gradients starting with yellow and leading to purple which gives the model a playful touch. Throughout the shoe holographic fabric is used to outline the overlays, a smooth yet eye-catching detail. The co-branded elements on the tongue tag match the logos on the clear water imagery on the insole. The 'Wings' logo is featured on the heel tab matching the purple translucent outsole that reveals 'Riddhi' writing on the bottom of the shoe.
The sneaker comes in a special edition box, featuring a note that describes Riddhi, the inspiration behind the design and the Freestyle Collection. Purple and blue laces come as an alternative to the colourful ones in the original design.
The collection features 5 other inspirational sneakers, including the Nike Air Presto by Kylee Young, Nike Huarache by Dario Villaseñor Valdivia, Nike Air Max 90 by Emerson Harrell, Nike Air Foamposite One by Coley Miller and the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 by Jaren Heacock.
