The History Of Mizuno
1906
To popularize baseball in Japan, Rihachi Mizuno and Rizo Mizuno founded Mizuno Brothers Ltd in Osaka, Japan. Rihachi had been deeply influenced by American baseball culture, so they created baseball-themed clothing, gloves, and footwear.
1920's - 1930's
Through the expansion of its product line, Mizuno is now able to serve the equipment and footwear needs of athletes. By the end of the 1930s, the Technology Development Division was established.
1940's - 1960's
The company began producing tennis equipment after WWII and went on to expand into other sports. In 1965, Mizuno revolutionized soccer footwear with the world's first moulded soccer cleats, which eliminated external studs and improved traction and stability.
1980's - 1990's
A version of the 'Runbird' logo is designed in the early 1980s. The company enters the running shoe market by producing performance-oriented shoes. Mizuno Wave technology was integrated into this shoe's midsole to give it better cushioning, stability, and energy dissipation.
2000's - 2010's
With Mizuno Wave technology, the Wave Rider becomes an enduring line of running shoes known for its performance and comfort. Mizuno's Wave technology is used to offer stability and support with its Wave Inspire series, further cementing Mizuno's market position.
Mizuno Today
Mizuno continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and performance through its Technology Development Division. In addition to enhanced cushioning and energy return, ENERZY midsole technology introduced in 2020 improves athletes' running experiences.
