Crocs was founded in Colorado in 2002 by Scott Seamans, Lyndon Hanson, and George
Boedbecker Jr.
When sailing, they came across a boat clog made by Canadian company Foam Creations using a new EVA foam material called Croslite, and the trio quickly acquired the rights to the manufacturing process and secured exclusive rights to the Croslite technology.
The first prototype was revealed at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show and sold out immediately. The brand then launched their first Croc model, ‘the Beach’, which is now known as Crocs Classics.
Crocs became very popular due to their comfort, breathability, and easiness to clean. Their moulded, non-slip and wipe-clean build meant they were spotted on the feet of nearly everyone who worked on their feet for hours, like nurses and kitchen workers.
Every Croc clog features thirteen holes in the top and sides to allow for airflow and customisation. In October 2006 the company purchased Jibbitz, which manufactures small accessories that can snap into these holes.
Love them or hate them, the ‘ugly’ Croc sandals are here to stay, with over 100 different styles for men, women and children.
