Nike has teamed up with Japanese card game Yu-Gi-Oh! for a brand new collaboration on the Air Max 95. The collection will be released in autumn 2025 and is full of references to Kazuki Takahashi's original manga.
Wink to the manga
In Volume 2 of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, the character Katsuya Jonouchi - better known as Joey Wheeler - wears a shoe very similar to the Air Max 95. As there was no license at the time, the model was called ‘Air Muscle’. The pair was expensive, was claimed back by ‘Muscle Hunters’, and got damaged. Yet Joey continued to wear them as a combat trophy.
Later, the Air Muscle reappeared in several manga and anime chapters and in artwork surrounding the card game. With this new collaboration, it seems the iconic sneaker is finally becoming a reality.
Release
Official images have not yet been released, but the first details have already leaked. The Air Max 95 will appear in two colorways: ‘White’ and ‘Psychic Blue’. This blue version in particular seems to refer directly to the Air Muscle worn by Joey Wheeler in the manga.
According to initial reports, the sneakers will have high-quality materials, gradient-style panels and dual branding. There is also talk of special packaging and an accompanying clothing line, including a Destroyer jacket and T-shirts.
Whether the model uses the Air Max ‘Big Bubble’ construction is as yet unknown.
