He is back. After some controversy surrounding Tom Sachs, the designer has returned to Nike. And what better way than with the rerelease of the NikeCraft Mars Yard 3.0? The sneaker is the third in the series and introduces innovative elements to the silhouette that debuted in 2012 (and now resells for tens of thousands of euros).
At the end of 2024, news broke that Nike would continue the collaboration with Sachs. In 2023, Nike had put the partnership on hold after troubling reports surfaced about Sachs’ work environment and his treatment of employees.
After a one-year pause, Nike saw potential in the collaboration again, and the two prepared for the rollout of the NikeCraft Mars Yard 3.0.
NikeCraft Mars Yard Shoe 3.0
The sneaker follows the NikeCraft Mars Yard Shoe 1.0 (2012) and the Mars Yard Shoe 2.0 (2017). The design remains true to its predecessors, featuring an off-white upper, brown overlays, and red details on the tongue and heel. However, there are some notable updates.
The Mars Yard 3.0 features a black TPU toe cap, screen-printed Swooshes, and subtle 'Sail' accents on the heel clip and outsole. The extended pull tab at the front also stands out, now cleverly functioning as a lace loop. The eyestay has been redesigned and no longer extends to the toe, instead consisting of two separate parts.
The sole has been updated with React foam and a carbon fiber plate. Combined with oversized eyelets, ribbed polyester laces, a breathable mesh upper, and a functional nylon heel loop, the shoe receives a thoughtful update where innovation and attention to detail work in harmony.
