PUMA is expanding their portfolio, dear community! The German brand is coming up with a new silhouette called PUMA VELOPHASIS. The line of lifestyle sneakers is inspired by the early 1980s, bringing back the style of the COMPLETE model with new trendy Y2K elements. Several Bionic and Phased colorways will release in February 2023.
This is the PUMA VELOPHASIS!
First look at the PUMA VELOPHASIS
PUMA gave us a first look at the sneaker during their FUTROGRADE show, a fashion show that was part of New York Fashion Week. Here, the German brand presented its plans for the future, including the new silhouette.
In November 2022, the PUMA VELOPHASIS appeared at the feet of US professional basketball player: Kyle Kuzma. Who was previously featured in PUMA's Hometown Heroes campaign.
The silhouette was then teased during Paris Fashion Week 2023. Where this time no other then Skepta wore the VELOPHASIS silhouette. The British MC has been a PUMA ambassador since September 2022. It is therefore no surprise, that he promoted the new design.
PUMA COMPLETE
Meanwhile, a release awaits us, which is why we dive a little deeper into the silhouette's design. For this new design, PUMA took inspiration from a silhouette from the brand's history books: the COMPLETE.
The PUMA COMPLETE is a running shoe from the early 2000s. The sneaker enabled PUMA to develop groundbreaking technologies, which are used by runners around the world. These include the iCell, e+Cell and EverRide technologies.
The VELOPHASIS builds on this heritage, with the addition of Y2K elements. The new design combines the best of both eras.
PUMA VELOPHASIS
The upper of the VELOPHASIS is constructed asymmetrically. The sneaker features honeycomb-patterned mesh, textured overlays and a chunky sole. All these details pay homage to the COMPLETE line (especially the Phasis model). The VELOPHASIS can be distinguished between Bionic and Phased, both of which will get a separate release.
Bionic
The first Bionic colorway is based on a more contemporary aesthetic. The sneaker has a metallic look with cream and electro-blue details.
Phased
The Phased is inspired by the Vaporwave and internet culture of the early 2000s with bright hues contrasting with the neutral colours of the design. In addition, this design will be cheaper than the Bionic.
The PUMA VELOPHASIS Bionic designs will be available on 4 February 2023 and the Phased's three colorways will drop on 11 February 2023. In addition, we can look forward to spring 2023, as more colorways and collaborations will start releasing.
