The History of the Converse Run Star
The Converse Run Star line is a classic yet bold offering from the brand, starting back in 2019 with a collab with JW Anderson. Jumping on the chunky sneaker trend, Converse took the familiar Chuck Taylor and turned it into a wild fashion statement – perfect for anyone looking to stand-out without giving up comfort.
Run Star Hike
Introduced as part of a collaboration with JW Anderson, the Run Star Hike was the first model in the Run Star line, shown at London Fashion Week in 2019.
In a stark contrast to Converse’s usual minimalist style, it fused the upper of the Chuck Taylor All Star with a chunky, exaggerated platform sole and jagged two-tone gum outsole.
It was rolled out in 2020 in staple black and white colorways, and has since become a statement sneaker on the streetwear scene.

Run Star Motion
In 2021, Converse introduced a new silhouette in the Run Star line: the Run Star Motion. Integrating CX foam for enhanced comfort, it was built with higher-end materials and took on a wavier, more exaggerated midsole and pronounced outsole.
The Motion also debuted in black and white colorways, but quickly branched out into bolder looks, including marbled uppers, utility-inspired versions, and leather uppers with faux fur lining in weather-ready editions.

Run Star Legacy CX
Also introduced in 2021, the Run Star Legacy CX is a sleeker model that draws directly from heritage basketball silhouettes. It’s made for more everyday wear, compared to the Motion or Hike, with CX foam for enhanced cushioning, and a sculpted platform midsole.
The streamlined platform midsole is less exaggerated than seen on the Hike and Motion, giving it a more subtle style while still maintaining that elevated look. The colorways on the Legacy CX are also more bold than the other models, while still available in the classic black and white.

Run Star Trainer
Later, in 2023, the Run Star Trainer joined the line-up. This low-top lifestyle sneaker merged the typical Converse DNA with retro running vibes, combining nylon, suede and leather overlays with CX foam. It appeals to those who like the Run Star vibe, but want something a little less chunky.
The Trainer’s design takes inspiration from 20 archival designs, including ones for running, tennis, volleyball and fencing. The result is a fresh looking sneaker with a retro touch.

Are Converse Run Star good for running?
Despite Converse's sporty heritage, the Run Star is not a model to play sports in. Although CX foam cushioning provides some comfort, it doesn't have the level of support or shock absorption normally needed for running. The platform soles are heavier than those of traditional running shoes, and offer less flexibility, making the Run Star models overall not ideal for running in.
Are Converse Run Star comfortable?
Run Star models are designed with comfort in mind. CX foam technology makes the shoes more supportive than traditional Converse models, and provides excellent cushioning, making them practical for daily use.
Do Converse Run Star fit true to size?
The Converse Run Star is known to fit true to size, so you can feel confident in buying the sneaker in your normal fit.
What’s the difference between the Run Star Hike and the Run Star Motion?

How do you clean Converse Run Star?
Converse Run Star models are best cleaned by hand. For the best results, remove the laces, then use a toothbrush to remove obvious dirt from the surface. Mix a mild detergent with some water, and use a sponge or cloth to gently scrub harder stains. Use a damp cloth to wipe off the residue, then let them air-dry.
For a smelly sneaker, you can sprinkle baking soda inside the shoe, then leave overnight. The powder will absorb moisture and neutralise the smell. Shake out the excess before wearing again. Alternatively, you can use silica gel or activated charcoal bags for the same results.
Laces can be cleaned with a mild detergent and rinsed afterwards, or you can put white laces in a 1:5 bleach and water solution for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
In addition, we do not recommend putting your shoes in the washing machine. Sneakers made of leather and suede can come out damaged. With shoes made of canvas or cotton, the risk is less, but the chance of damaged sneakers remains. So we recommend always washing your sneakers by hand. If you do put them in the washing machine, then place the shoes in an old pillowcase beforehand.
