Taking advantage of the increasing global popularity of the NFL and current fashion trends, Nike is seizing the opportunity to reintroduce the Field General 82. Discover all the details about this sneaker model below!
1982
As the name suggests, the Field General sneaker was first introduced in the year 1982. This shoe was originally intended for the Field Generals, also known as the quarterbacks in American football. It has been worn by some of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, including Archie Manning and Dan Fouts.
Because the sport was not particularly popular outside the United States in the 1980s, this model became forgotten. But with the growing popularity of the NFL and current fashion trends, it seems the model is making a well-deserved comeback!
Design of the Field General 82
The silhouette of the Field General 82 returns with its original shape, with the composition of materials updated. Furthermore, it retains the same leather and ballistic nylon construction that made it so legendary in the early years. Also, the outsole replicates the original from the 1980s, with the same Super Bowl-appropriate tread designed specifically for multi-directional movement.
In addition, Nike branding is carefully stitched on the tongue and heel badge. A classic Swoosh across the lateral and medial sides shines to brighten everything up. Finally, the Field General 82 comes in a special retro shoe box, which will no doubt spark nostalgia among seasoned sneaker enthusiasts.
Upcoming Field General 82 releases
The first release of the Field General 82 took place recently and included nothing less than the OG version in the 'White/Red/Black' colorway.
In addition to the original version, Nike has plans to release some impressive collaborations with this sneaker model later this season. Although details are somewhat vague at this time, rumors are circulating that a collaboration is on the way between Union LA and Nike for the Field General 82.
