Sustainability plays an increasingly important role in our society, and this environmentally conscious trend can also be seen in the sneaker world. US sports brand Saucony is taking the sustainable movement to a whole new level. The brand will release the Saucony 'Mushroom Pack' on 22 April 2023. The three-piece sneaker collection uses alternative leather made from, yes mushrooms. Read all about the special sneakers here.
A sneaker made out of mushrooms? How is that possible? We are going to tell you. The sneaker from the pack consists, among other things, of Hyphalite. Hyphalite is a new innovative material composed of 90% organic materials, including mushrooms. The mushrooms are dried after harvesting, mixed with water, and then pressed, creating a material very similar to leather.
The Saucony 3D Grid Hurricane, Saucony Shadow 5000 and the Saucony Shadow 6000 are featured in this signature Mushroom Pack.
Besides using Hyphalite in the sneaker' uppers, the other components are also eco-friendly. Think recycled laces and soles, for example.
On the various sneaker models themselves, you can also see some references to the use of mushrooms. On the tongue labels, for instance, you can also see a purple mushroom next to the logo.
