2025 promises to be a special year for the Nike Air Max 95, dear community. The silhouette is celebrating its 30th anniversary and is bound to attract some attention. In 2024, Nike already set the tone with a striking collaboration with Central Cee, and that's just the beginning. Earlier, we discussed the expected colorways of the Air Max 1 and Air Max 90, but the Air Max 95 will undoubtedly be the release of the year 2025.
The origins of the Air Max 95
The story begins in 1990, when Nike asked designer Sergio Lozano to create a new running shoe. Lozano had already worked on several Nike projects, but for the Air Max 95, he wanted to create something unprecedented. He was inspired by nature and the anatomy of the human body. The result: a shoe with layered panels reminiscent of muscle fibres and a midsole that mirrors the spine.
Lozano's first sketch emerged on a rainy day in Beaverton, where he looked at the landscape and incorporated the eroding earth into his design. This sense of strength and nature came together in the design of the Air Max 95.
The colour choice, a grey gradient with neon ‘Volt’ details, was meant to emphasise the technological aspects of the shoe, but was initially considered risky. Nevertheless, it became an iconic colour theme that would influence the sneaker industry forever. Since its introduction in 1995, the Air Max 95 remains a timeless symbol of innovation and style.
What can we expect in 2025?
With the anniversary approaching, we can expect many exciting releases of the Air Max 95. Besides retro versions of classic colorways, such as the legendary ‘Neon’ look, innovative collaborations will also feature. Rumours point to a new collab with Corteiz, whose previous colorways were quickly sold out. These exclusive designs have further increased the hype around the Air Max 95, and it seems that 2025 will continue this trend.
