Sometimes, you have brands that just know what their audience wants or even needs. One of those brands is Nottingham-based Universal Works. The brand is known for creating workwear that you can also rock when going out. Now, David Keyte's brand is presenting a new collaboration with Karhu. Karhu and Universal Works are teaming up to reimagine the Mestari Control and Trampas silhouettes. The sneakers arrive with an accompanying clothing collection. The collection is dropping on Thursday the 6th of April, 2023.
The sneaker collection
Kicking off with the Mestari Control, you can certainly see the handprint of Universal Works all over the sneaker. The sneaker comes in a 'Tan/Navy' colorway while flipping the M logo upside down, making it a W. The pair that first came out in 1977, was known for the patented air cushion midsole and their optimization of color.
Universal Works honors its legacy by putting the shoe in suede and grained textiles. To top it all off, there are 3M leather paneling and lashings of khaki and green added to the sole unit.
Next to the Mestari Control, the Karhu x Universal Works Trampas has a bit more of a subtle approach. Just like its counterpart, the Trampas, it has the M upside down. The sneaker comes in a 'Navy/Grey' colorway.
For both, suede is used all over the sneaker, giving the 1966 silhouette a luxurious update. As such, the sneaker comes with a rubber outsole with OG elements including a padded heel and optimum arch support.
Karhu x Universal Works clothing capsule
Besides the Trampas and the Mestari Control, Karhu and Universal Works have also designed a clothing line accompanying the sneakers. This capsule draws upon the minimal and functional elements of the sneakers.
The collection includes jackets, long sleeve t-shirts, shorts, and accessories that come in a color scheme of cream and brownish-beige. All of this together creates a unique aesthetic between the two brands.
