Is this Nike Air Force 1 Low a version inspired by Ye's BAPE collaboration?
Recently, Nike shared the official images of an Air Force 1 Low in a 'Light British Tan' colorway. The sneaker features a stylish palette with warm, autumnal tones, which bears a striking resemblance to a famous release from 2007: the Kanye West x BAPE STA 'College Dropout'.
Whether Nike drew inspiration from this colorway is unclear, though Ye would likely say they did. The sneaker combines beige, red, and brown—the same colors featured on the 2007 BAPE STA. Additionally, the red accents on the Air Force 1 are placed in the same spots.
Nike and BAPE have often found themselves at odds, primarily due to accusations that BAPE copied Nike’s designs. That the roles might one day be reversed was unexpected - at least for me. One could argue that it’s nearly impossible to avoid using colors that have appeared in previous collaborations.
Besides, Ye’s BAPE STA was so limited in quantity that resale prices for this colorway reached thousands of euros, making the sneaker nearly unattainable. A variant inspired by this iconic sneaker might actually be highly desirable among fans of the original release.
The Nike Air Force 1 Low '07 'Light British Tan' has already been released in the United States. The European release date for this colorway is still unknown. Check out the official images of the colorway below.
