If you're familiar with the Star Wars movies, and probably even if you're not, this quote should be instantly recognisable by you! The film series, created by George Lucas, debuted in 1977 with 'Star Wars: A New Hope'. The series with characters such as Darth Vader, Yoda and Luke Skywalker is a cult classic.
On May 4th, also known as May the Fourth - i.e. "May the force...", it's Star Wars Day and especially for this day, we show you the best collections and sneakers inspired by the iconic film series.
Star Wars Day
It is perhaps the most well-known film series next to James Bond, Harry Potter, or Lord of The Rings; Star Wars. The film series has had 21 Oscar nominations in recent years and has won ten of them. In addition to the three completed trilogies, two standalone films, three live-action series, several animated series, and several comic book series, Star Wars has also collaborated with big names such as adidas, Swarovski, KITH, Bearbrick, and many more.
If you haven't watched a Star Wars movie yet, it's important to know first that the films were not made in chronological order. The series consists of three trilogies, each telling its own story. In addition, the film also has its own series, including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor.
The Story
To explain the story of Star Wars, we still have a lot to cover. The films take place in a faraway galaxy, where the battle between good and evil is fought. A mysterious force, simply known as 'The Force', plays a central role and is used by Jedi and Sith, among others.
The films have multiple iconic characters. The Stormtroopers, who fight for the Galactic Empire, Anakin Skywalker - also known as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Yoda, and of course Chewbacca, are central to the films.
The original trilogy tells the story of Luke Skywalker's quest to become a Jedi and his struggle against Darth Vader. This story is accompanied by the Rebel Alliance's fight to liberate the universe from the clutches of the Galactic Empire. In the subsequent series and trilogies, characters and stories are further highlighted.
Recently, Disney released the series 'Obi-Wan Kenobi', which tells the story of the character with the same name. The series debuted in 2022 and brings back actor Ewan Gordon McGregor, who played the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in 'Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith' (2005), among others. In March 2023, Disney released the third season of 'The Mandalorian', which tells the story of the titular character played by Pedro Pascal.
In June 2024, we can anticipate the next chapter, as that's when the first episode of The Acolyte will air. The Skeleton Crew will also be admired in 2024. So it appears they're far from finished expanding the franchise.
Star Wars in fashion
In addition to the successful film and series franchise, Star Wars is also beloved in the fashion industry. Various brands have already released collections featuring characters from the series. Vans came out with a Star Wars inspired collection in 2014, and Nike also released inspired colorways, including the Star Wars x Nike Air Presto Mid Utility 'Darth Vader'.
Recently, the jewelry brand Pandora released a Star Wars collection specifically aimed at female fans. The charms were inspired by the different charms that can be hung on Pandora bracelets. Clothing brands such as KITH, Uniqlo, Levi's, and Columbia also collaborated with the film series.
One brand that has focused heavily on Star Wars in recent years is adidas. The German sportswear brand has released multiple collections featuring characters from the movies. The NMD_R1 and adidas Top Ten Hi received a "Boba Fett" colorway, the Ultraboost 19 a "Millennium Falcon" colorway, and the adidas Stan Smith appeared in a "Luke Skywalker" variant.
The Star Wars X adidas Superstar 'Darth Vader' also cannot be missed in the adidas collaborations and has a striking colorway. In addition to sneakers, adidas has also released various clothing collections inspired by Star Wars.
