Gary Aspden and his team have once again been very busy, and with their fall/winter collection 2020 they are once again providing us with some really nice sneakers from the adidas archives. Today we want to take a closer look at which adidas Spezial sneakers are included and what the collection has to offer in terms of apparel. We won't have to wait much longer, as the pieces will be released on September 18th, 2020! But before that we will give you a little insight behind the scenes: what is adidas Spezial and what makes their sneakers and collections so special? Let's go!
adidas SPZL - Retro, cult and great styles
adidas Spezial, that is a special series of adidas, which will make the hearts of all retro fans beat faster twice a year, each with a spring/summer and an autumn/winter collection. Why? Gary Aspden and his team search the adidas archives for their traditional styles and always revive old looks under a specific theme.
For their current collection, the adidas SPZL team has brought the British band New Order on board. The archive inspired products will bring along vibes of British leisure culture from past years. In total we will receive 5 sneakers and, as always, a few clothes, with the focus this time on old rain jackets, among other things. Retro!

So, then let's go for the sneakers, I would say! The kicks of the second drop of adidas Spezial this year are, how could it be otherwise, all revised classics from the adidas history.
At adidas itself, the collection will be a Waiting Room Release. So you have to acquire the right to cop the kicks here. Let's start with this casual look: The adidas Newrad SPZL comes in brown with a suede upper. A simple look, absolutely retro, with the SPZL branding on the side and on the tongue. For 140€ this style can be yours. A list of all retailers can be found here:
The adidas Hrmny SPZL is a not too well-known silhouette from the former adidas Torsion range. Today we know the Torsion System mainly from the ZX family. It stands for the optimal freedom of movement between the back and forefoot. The sneaker from the new adidas Spezial Collection comes in a chic colorway on a textile upper that also features suede overlays. In the past this look was very popular among football fans! The fun will cost you 130€.

Even though the summer is slowly coming to an end, it is getting really hot again thanks to the adidas Adilette SPZL. Okay, I admit it, dear community, I have had better word games for you 🤫! But a hot style awaits us here anyway! The blue Adilette features the adidas Spezial logo. Sneaker hybrids are the main theme of the new collection. Here we get the classic Adilette with a retro makeover that's really something.

Ready for the autumn with these special looks
We continue with the adidas Aderley SPZL. A sneaker hybrid that is inspired by the clean tennis style, but also features distinctive elements. The white upper is made of mesh, but also comes with some leather accents. Its inspiration comes from the Terrace-Culture, which made a name for itself in the 80s in Great Britain. Retro, minimalistic and yet it makes an absolute statement! The look is priced at 110€.
The adidas Wilsy SPZL also comes minimalistic and clean, but with a slightly different story. The singer of New Order has often worn this style on stage and so the sneaker from the new collection comes with branding elements that follow on from it! The shoe features white smooth leather on the upper, a translucent sole and some co-branding elements. Connoisseurs may still see small changes in detail, like the white eyelets on the laces for example.

In terms of apparel, the team run around Gary Aspden looked at rain jackets from the late 70s, tracksuit jackets from the 80s and jackets from earlier SPZL releases and gave them a style all their own.
